Closer Than You Think: A Tuscany Train Ride

Story Transcript:
It: Luca non si era mai sentito così solo in tutta la sua vita.
En: Luca had never felt so alone in his entire life.

It: Aveva viaggiato in Toscana in cerca di famiglia, ma non si aspettava di trovarla così lontana.
En: He had traveled to Tuscany in search of family, but hadn’t expected to find them so far away.

It: Mentre saliva sul vecchio treno, era pieno di un senso di anticipazione alla prospettiva di scoprire le sue radici, finché il treno non iniziò a muoversi.
En: As he boarded the old train, he was filled with a sense of anticipation at the prospect of discovering his roots – until the train started to move.

It: Anch’io sono di Roma.
En: I’m from Rome too.

It: Sto andando a trovare la mia famiglia in campagna.
En: I’m on my way to visit my family in the country.

It: E tu?”
En: What about you?”

It: Luca fece un respiro profondo e iniziò a raccontare la sua storia.
En: Luca took a deep breath and began to tell his story.

It: Spiegò perché stava viaggiando in Toscana e come stava cercando parenti lontani che non aveva mai incontrato prima.
En: He explained why he was traveling to Tuscany, and how he was searching for distant relatives he’d never met before.

It: L’uomo ascoltò attentamente e, mentre il treno continuava a percorrere la campagna, si scambiarono storie e dettagli della loro vita.
En: The man listened intently, and as the train continued to roll through the countryside, they swapped stories and shared details of their lives.

It: Con il passare del pomeriggio, le storie di Luca e dell’uomo iniziarono a confondersi.
En: As the afternoon went on, Luca and the man’s stories began to blur together.

It: Luca sentiva uno strano legame con l’uomo, e capì che l’uomo doveva essere un suo lontano parente.
En: Luca felt a strange connection to the man, and he realized that the man must be his distant relative.

It: Quando il treno giunse a destinazione, Luca aveva trovato il coraggio di chiedere all’uomo se era imparentato con lui.

It: L’uomo sorrise e annuì.
En: The man smiled, and nodded.

It: “Sì,” disse, “sono il tuo prozio.
En: “Yes,” he said, “I’m your great-uncle.

It: Era da tanto che speravo di incontrarti, ma non mi sarei mai aspettato che accadesse durante un viaggio in treno tra le colline toscane.”
En: I’d been hoping to meet you for a long time, but I never expected it to happen on a train ride through the hills of Tuscany.”

It: Luca non ci poteva credere.
En: Luca couldn’t believe it.

It: Aveva percorso centinaia di miglia per cercare la famiglia e il suo lontano parente era stato al suo fianco per tutto il tempo.
En: He had traveled hundreds of miles to search for family, and his distant relative had been by his side the entire time.
