En: It looked at the children and sniffed curiously.

Frau Müller nickte.
En: “A deer!”
Mrs. Müller nodded.
De: „Ja, Lena.
En: “Yes, Lena.
De: Im Schwarzwald leben viele Tiere.
En: Many animals live in the Black Forest.
De: Das Reh sucht wahrscheinlich nach Futter.“
Das Reh blieb stehen und fraß ein paar Blätter.
En: The deer is probably looking for food.”
The deer stood still and ate a few leaves.
De: Dann sprang es davon und verschwand im Wald.
En: Then it jumped away and disappeared into the forest.
De: Die Kinder staunten.
En: The children were amazed.
De: „Warum kommt das Reh so nah zu uns?“ fragte Hans.
En: “Why does the deer come so close to us?” Hans asked.
De: „Weil wir ruhig sind und es uns nicht fürchten muss“, antwortete Frau Müller.
En: “Because we are quiet and it doesn’t have to fear us,” answered Mrs. Müller.
De: „Tiere können fühlen, wenn Menschen freundlich sind.“
Der Unterricht ging weiter.
En: “Animals can sense when people are friendly.”
The lesson continued.
